Manufacturing Processes

From idea to realization

Design

Design is the most critical phase in the creation of tooling; the two subsequent stages, as well as the equipment's functionality, reliability, and productivity, depend directly upon it.

MC Plast's technical department offers clients the benefit of thirty years of experience in tooling design and development. This expertise, combined with continuous research, enables the company to provide the best solutions tailored to each client's specific needs.

The use of state-of-the-art software by design engineers—who also possess practical experience in tooling fabrication—ensures that every mold embodies the optimal required characteristics: from the type of extrusion material to the extruded profile type, all while adhering to the production standards specified by the client.

Manufacturing

Tooling is manufactured using high-tech machinery — including AgieCharmilles wire-cut EDM machines, European-made machining centers, European-made deep-hole drilling centers, and abrasive flow die-polishing machines — alongside the traditional systems that remain an essential part of MC Plast's production process.

The tooling is produced entirely from premium-grade steels characterized by high hardness and high chromium content (ranging from 13% to 17%). The use of materials with certified quality and specifications allows us to guarantee every client that the dimensional and aesthetic characteristics of the extruded profile will not change over time due to premature mold wear.

However, the heart and driving force of our production operations are our technicians; thanks to their expertise and professionalism, we are able to guarantee the reliability and quality of our tooling.

Testing

MC Plast's testing department is comparable to a small-scale extrusion company; it covers an area of approximately 800 m2 and operates completely independently of the main production lines. The facility houses two extrusion lines (a 90 mm twin-screw extruder and a 60 mm single-screw extruder), complete with co-extruders. We also have a closed-loop cooling system with a capacity of 32,000 frigories—providing a constant supply of 4 m3 of water at 10°C — as well as a material drying system and a temperature control unit.

Thanks to this equipment, we can independently test the molds we manufacture for a wide range of materials. We produce profiles varying from just a few grams per meter to large-section, heavy-duty profiles, consistently replicating extrusion conditions that are similar — or at least compatible — with those the customer will use for actual production.

Naturally, none of this would be possible without our team of expert testing technicians, who are dedicated to this phase of the process—working either at MC Plast's facilities or, upon request, at the end customer's site.
